New Hope for the Wretched: Tomato Pills!
by Jim Washburn
Along with all the dreary stuff we report, we like tossing you the occasional bone of consolation. Look for more New Hope for the Wretched blogs soon, assuming we can find something else to be hopeful about.
Maybe you've heard about the health benefits "Mediterranean Diet," and in particular how tomatoes are good for you, particularly ones high in the antioxidant lycopene, which is found in the skin of tomatoes. Well, if that's not particular enough for you, the BBC is reporting that British scientists associated with Cambridge University have developed a "tomato pill" called Ateronon containing a concentrated, highly assimilable form of lycopene that has been found to practically eliminate harmful fats from oxidizing in the blood, whacking out "bad" cholesterol at the outset and doing your heart a world of good. Though other trials are needed, doctors anticipate that the new tomato-based pills will prove more effective than statin drugs at controlling cholesterol. In the meantime, some folks say just squeezing more tomato paste concentrate on your food is good for you.

yeah. it would be great to squeeze tomato paste on my food, IF I COULD FIND TOMATO PASTE IN TUBES IN THE GOD-FORSAKEN PLACE!
(and i’ve been looking for a year and a half.)
