Earth Justice:  Week 6 of No Laundry Detergent

by Donna Schoenkopf

It pays to stick with an experiment.

This past week's laundry episode reveals an interesting phenomenon.  My sheets are still white.  But my towels have taken on a faint gray cast.  I am wondering if adding some gray towels to the white load could have infected my pretty whites.

Everything is still soft.  Water runs clear.

I am thinking about the whole thing.  Am going to continue using only hot water in my washer for a while.

Back in 1989 Paul told me that yellowish or grayish whites were a badge of honor.  It meant you weren't using Earth-destructing chemicals to impress your friends and neighbors with how "clean" your laundry was.

I am trying to keep that in mind.  I might just be too Americanized to adjust.
